The Capilano suspension bridge park is on the outskirts of Vancouver, British Columbia. Read about Vancouver  There’s a suspension bridge, a treetop adventure and a cliffwalk.

How to get there.

A short 20 min free shuttle ride from various pickup points throughout Vancouver city and you arrive amongst the towering evergreens. The shuttle also takes you back to the city.

Tickets for Capilano park costs $47 and you can spend a few hours here.

The Suspension Bridge

The suspension bridge crosses the Capilano canyon, at 230 ft high and 450 ft long its the longest bridge of its type in the world!

Once you get there the first to encounter is the bridge itself, and its very wobbly. You can see some people holding on for dear life whilst others stroll across as if they had no care in the world, I was one of the former. It takes a while to walk across and about halfway the views are beautiful, look down if you dare. You feels like you are drunk whilst walking on it as it sways a bit.
Once on the other side, you can walk the endless paths on the boardwalks, whilst looking out for squirrels and other wildlife or walk the treetops adventure.

Treetop adventure

Walk up wooden slopes which gradually get higher and higher into the trees. Platforms around the trees are connected by mini suspension bridges, there are 7 bridges in total. the highest platform is 110ft above the woodland floor. you feel like one of the birds being up that high.

The platforms and bridges are attached to 250 year old Douglas firs. The platforms are movable and no nails or bolts attach to the trees protecting these giants. It was fun walking the maze of paths from tree to tree, making you feel like a big kid!

The cliffwalk

Crossing back over the long suspension bridge we decided to conquer the cliffwalk. This heart stopping (for me anyway) cliffside tour on suspended walkways jutting from the sides of the cliff face. With the river down below, the views again are gorgeous. The walkways are high and narrow and in some places a glass floor is the only thing between your feet and the canyon below. The sun was shining and I’m glad I faced my fears and walked on it.

We spent near on 3 hours at the park, it was cloudy when we arrived but once the sun came out it was lovely and warm. It was so peaceful and quiet we could have stayed longer, but we had to head back to the city. So grabbing the free shuttle back we reluctantly left this beautiful fun place.
